A Hanover boosters caravan arrived Thursday with twenty six cars to advertise a two day fall festival on September 6 and 7. The group distributed bills while the band played and handed out whisties pads of matches and particles to the streets.
Eunice Garber attended the teacher's institute in Fairbury on Tuesday and Wednesday, gathering with fellow educators for professional sessions and discussions.
B Decker, editor of the Hanover Democrat, called at the News office Thursday morning to discuss local coverage.
Local notices show Steele City public schools set to open Monday. Various family visits, dental care notes, and community events are listed as part of a broad county notice page. The civil service exam for Fourth Class Postmaster will be held in Fairbury on September 9.
Mr and Mrs Allen Bridwell have rented their residence to Superintendent E P Peters on and his wife and plan to move to Fremont Nebraska to live with their daughter Mrs W G Abel.
B W Cox and Frank Cox of Kansas City and Charles Cox of Welda Kansas arrived Saturday to visit their mother Mrs Dell Cox who had undergone an operation at the General Hospital in Odell last week.
Word arrived from Huntington Park California of the death of Will Hall long time Steele City resident. He was connected to Mrs. Chas. C. Andrews and Oakley Goldaberry as brother and brother-in-law. He served as railroad agent here.
A church notes summer activities and a return to the school year. The young people's choir sang Blest Be The Tie and praise for director Mrs. E O Cassell. Despite rain, a fine congregation gathered and plans for fall were discussed led by Stewart Earhart. A Board meeting is planned and they seek full attendance.
Rev Wilford Phelps died August 21 1933 in Hillsboro New Hampshire aged 49 He was born 1884 in Steele City Nebraska son of Asa E and Marion Phelps nephew of Mrs Forsha He pastored the M E church at Rockville Center Long Island for ten years and led a large congregation He spoke at Steele City chautauqua replacing a no show speaker Survived by wife two children three brothers and one sister
The annual August picnic moved to Sunday the 27th due to rain and was held indoors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C Woods. Guests enjoyed the meal and thanked the Woods for their hospitality.
Blue Valley Temple No 6 holds a regular meeting on September 1 at 8 o clock with all members urged to attend. A family relocation notes Ralph Arner and his three daughters Elna Ardene and Betty depart for Scribner Nebraska while Mrs Arner and Janet plan Friday departure. Steele City kitten ball team loses 10 9 to Endicott Wednesday night with Greenwood Samp son Darling L Kuper Lott man Davis Filley Gebrt Gassell and Hicks as players Hatteries Sampson Kuper and Greenwood. Hugh Greenwood contributes a long hit for Steele City’s home run.
Miss Hazel Lottman of Diller Nebraska wed Mr Floyd Goldsberry of Steele City at Belleville Kansas on Thursday August 24. Probate Judge Henry VanNatta officiated. The couple will reside on the Goldsberry farm near Washington Kansas.
The Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters hosted a Monday evening farewell for Mr and Mrs Ralph Arner and their children. Members praised the Arners for faithfulness and support, as they relocate to Scribner Nebraska. After talks and refreshments a social hour with dancing followed.
The Ladies Aid meets Tuesday September 5 at 2:30 in the church parlors. A Nebraska program prompts members to share an interesting Nebraska fact and roll call. Afterward a food sale exchanges items. all ladies urged to attend.
The W C T U County Convention meets Thursday September 7 at the Presbyterian Church in Steele City with three sessions and a covered dish dinner and supper. Mrs A Hance is the Co President and organizers urge attendees to bring dishes.
The ThesS. B. A. will hold its regular meeting Monday night September 4 and conduct the yearly election of officers at this time.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet with Mrs. A. H. Manning next Wednesday at 2 30 PM. All members urged to attend for officer elections. Gayle Garber will teach in District 24 in Alexandria this term. Mr and Mrs Robert Bennett visited the R H Edgingtons and returned to Franklin Nebraska. Harley Thrapp underwent appendicitis surgery Tuesday in a Fairbury hospital and is reported recovering as expected.
Newt Fisher was dragging our roads Tuesday. Mr. McFarlan is building a silo near Thompson this week. Charley Stark of Fairbury was in this neighborhood Friday. Ike Bowers was in this neighborhood Monday busing cattle. George Banahan traded cows with Olen Nutter Friday. The Deboers family spent Thursday evening at the Henry Meyers home. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers and Bethel spent Friday evening at the Malady home.
