Mrs Phillip Asche Sr sister of L G Walfe died last Monday in a Clay Center hospital and funeral was Thursday at the Methodist church in Washington with interment in Liberty cemetery. Mrs E J Wells and daughters attended the funeral of Frank Connor in Diller. Citizens urged return of borrowed wheelbarrows from the clay pit.

The pred City Woman's club sponsored the contest closing May 1. Judging occurred at the May meeting at Mrs. Crane's home. First place went to Our Home Town by Mrs. Hubert Manning, second to Bleeding Heart by Mrs. Nel Megonigie, third to Spring by Mrs. May Lowe. The winning poem is printed on page four.

Fire destroys Hance farm near Steele City
A farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hance north of Steele City burned Thursday night last week around 11:30. The Hance family saved furniture and bedding while neighbors and residents rushed to control the blaze and prevent its spread.

The fire caused loss of most furnishings with seventy quarts of meat saved from the cellar along with lard and other provisions. The origin is unknown but suspected to be a wiring defect. The Hance family relocates to the basement of the A. H. Gretainger residence.
