Supt Melton reports a busy 175 day term ending with a picnic as Steele City High School wraps up the 1929-30 year. New staff include Obhe Hayes plus Maxine Lissack joining seventh and eighth grades. teachers express thanks and optimism for the next year.
A ground hog, described as the size of a small badger, was killed last Sunday and identified Monday at the university in Lincoln. The animal’s age and rarity sparked speculation about its appearance in the region when shown by Mr. Parson. Erma Drake returned Saturday from Morrill, Nebraska where she has been teaching for the past year.
Classifieds show livestock for sale including a stallion and brood sows with a $10 service fee. Local residents visit relatives across Fairbury Hanover Lincoln Marysville and St Francis while church groups host socials and a hamburger fry at the Presbyterian basement.
Mrs Eva Hamley of Topeka Kansas stopped here Saturday to visit her son Arthur and friends. She continued her journey early this week and plans to visit two sisters at her destination in Oregon.
Mrs. Frank Crinklaw Mrs. Elmer Kersting and Elizabeth Rucker attended graduation exercises in Marysville Kansas Monday night. Mary Rucker a niece and cousin was among a class of seventy three graduates.
The Presbyterian Church reports a reduced morning attendance due to rain and muddy roads, but a choir duet by Mrs Palmer and Mrs Meganiyle brightened the service. Evening worship featured the Bac calaureate for the 1930 High School class also praised for decoration and music. The Missionary Society metWednesday at Mrs Lowe’s home. Memorial and vacation Bible school plans were announced, with sympathy extended for Mr Wilson’s death and news of a memorial plate for Calvin E. Claris. Next Sunday features a Memorial service and worship morning hour.
Messrs and ladies indebted to J C Wilson deceased are urged to settle with Mrs J C Wilson and Mrs K Hoeft who have returned to Grand Island after a several day visit. Mrs Esther Gretzinger and Mrs Ernest Lawrence were entertained at dinner and Cletus Bugbee hosted guests Wednesday evening.
Sunday school class ladies hosted a bridal shower at Miss Bernice Gretzinger home for Mrs. Reuben Gretzinger formerly Miss Alice Bana han. Guests presented many gifts and enjoyed games and refreshments prepared by Miss Idith Tripp Esther Gretzinger and Bernice Gretzinger. Edith Marts arrived from Juniata to visit her sister Mrs. Ralph Winner and filled in at local school last week.
John C. Wilson born April 19 1863 in Sparta Wisconsin died May 15 1930 aged 67 years 26 days. He moved with family to Bedford Iowa then Jefferson County Nebraska later Norton County Kansas. He married Esther Ridgeway January 13 1847 and had eight children two died in infancy. He joined Plymouth Congregational Church later Steele City and served on the town board. Survived by wife four sons two daughters eleven grandchildren one great grandchild and a brother in Escalosa New Mexico. Funeral at First Presbyterian Steele City with Rev Filinger in charge. interment Steele City cemetery.

An evening collision near Endicott injures Mrs. Hugh Greenwood and Zerelda Kuper of Steele City. Greenwood, driving with schoolchildren to a Fairbury show, suffers a seven inch scalp wound. Kuper has foot lacerations. Others include Elia Arner, Pauline Duis Dots Kasparek, and Dorothy Shepherd. The Greensoods leave for Topeka after. Lorelda’s leg injuries reported. Mrs James in hospital in Topeka. Mrs Slouly of California arrives for funeral in Cozad for Wesley Nortwick.
A Thursday gathering at Mrs. C. C. Andrews home brought sixteen Diller club members together. Devotions led by Mrs. E W. Kendall, entertainment included solos by Mrs. Nellie Megonigle, and a paper on Home Life of Christ was read by Mrs. John E. Filinger. Mrs. M. O. Sampson reported on the national biennial conversion of women's clubs in Denver.
The 1930 senior class presented a night program at the Presbyterian church. Louis Shanek as Captain and Charley Lowe with Warren Adee as mates wore sailor uniforms. The audience enjoyed music by Mrs Fay Clark. The timetable included scenes on the deck of the Senior ship and multiple songs and prophecies. James Russell Andrews spent the weekend with his parents and attends the state university journalism program.
