Miss Helen DuVall of Fairbury formerly of Steele City won first in the high voice group at the National School Music Competition Festival in Omaha on May 12. She previously earned a Superior rating at the District Contest in Geneva last March as judge Noble Cain of Chicago led the event with nine states represented. The article also notes favorable remarks about Erdine Haddix and features local student Pharaby Boileau known as Jeanne Carroll for radio work, plus several local social notes from Lincoln and Steele City communities.
Ruth Garrett visited home folks this week end while the Talmadge school she teaches at will close today. Ernest Noakes and daughter from Alma Nebr spent Sunday night and Monday with Mrs Maude Davis. W E Willey advertises wallpapers with borders gratis for all rooms. E Tarnow returned from Hubbell to Omaha where he lives with his daughter. Clay pit work slowed by rain with water pumped from the site. Tuesday afternoon partial loading occurred, delaying progress until Thursday.
The church plans next Sunday morning services with the theme Who are you and an evening young people gathering led by Doris Outhier. A Bible school enrollment is forty seven with teachers listed and praise for the Helpers. News from Washington Kansas notes Rev. Robert Howard as pastor and congratulations to neighbors. May we urge all young people to join next Sunday and remain faithful. Fern Hance and Glenn Riddie are mentioned with local work updates.

Bonnie Winner left for Indianola to visit grandparents. Mrs Harry Mahlman and son Maurice sailed to Waterville Kansas to visit Jesse Leiber.
Steele City beat Lanham 9-7 and tied Odell 6-5 in a Sunday doubleheader. Next Sunday they travel to Daykin. Daykin games were rescheduled to May 22 in Daykin and July 10 in Steele City. Washington plays there June 26. Woodcraft class runs 1:00 pm for two weeks. The literary night set a new attendance record but ends this season. resuming in fall. Mor gan Henderson fight drew excitement. Croquet cart moves delayed by rain. hopes for completion soon. The club invites more girls to woodcraft class.
