Nola Fern Hance hosted a lawn party at her parents home Tuesday evening from 7 30 to 9 30. Fourteen of her schoolmates attended. The group spent the hours in games and refreshments were served.
Last Sunday the Presbyterian Church held Mothers Day events with the Young Married Woman's class leading morning worship. The evening featured the usual youth meetings and the 1933 baccalaureate with Dr. Ross S. McCown of Beatrice delivering the sermon. The missionary society hosted a mother and daughter banquet with about 130 guests.

Miss Nettie Godden youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Godden of Steele City and Mr Louis Funke of Hollenberg Kansas were married by Rev Francois Buck in Marysville Kansas on April 29 1933 The bride a Steele City High School graduate and recent teacher will reside on a farm south of Steele City after May 28 with many friends invited to share in the couple39s new life.
Last Sunday evening May 14th the Presbyterian church hosted baccalaureate services. Dr R S McCown delivered the address titled I Am the Way focusing on success through stamina scholarship and sympathy. Graduates from both high and grade schools processed in while the choir provided appropriate numbers and the church was decorated with flowers. Attendance was good.
A Saturday evening band concert directed by Bandmaster F Crink law drew praise as another successful entry in the series. The program featured band selections readings Lucille Taylor a duet by Lor raine and Edward Cassell solos by Verne Cassell Loyd Thrapp a quartet by Elna Arner Erdine Haddix Harlan Gehrt Loyd Thrapp a trio Erdine Haddix Harlan LeRoy Gehrt acrobatic dance by Helen Shepherd with Carl Fahrenwald as Count Ivan Anfulitch assisted on stage by Dwight Lowe Stewart Earhart and Harlan Gehrt and more band selections.
The veteran performers headline Monday evenings and draw capacity crowds. Next Monday they promote Thieving Bankers as one of the funniest shows of the season.
C W Motter K Lawson and Chas Meshier of Linegin Telephone and Telegraph Co visited Steele City Thursday to unveil a refined advertising and sales program. Calvin Sampson and Harold Martin await a Beatrice court house preliminary exam for government forestry service induction with army surgeon evaluation. Jefferson county seeks thirty two admittees with exams at Beatrice for men from Jefferson Saline Fillmore Thayer and Gage. W J Moss of Fairbury chairs the county committee.
The program for a mother and daughter banquet held Friday evening in the Presbyterian church basement, organized by the Missionary Society, featured group singing led by Mrs. Bethel Cassell, a series of toasts by Mrs. May Lowe and others, readings including The Seven Ages of Women, vocal solos by Nell Megonigle and others, a clarinet solo, and a benediction by Mrs. J. Filinger. A light note on local wit closes the item with a reference to a separate cartoon caption.
Dwight Roseman, six year old son of Mr and Mrs John Roseman, escaped serious danger when he hid in a car coat and suffocated from exhaust fumes. A telephone call quickly summoned Dr C E Rice. Dr I N Morgan could not return in time. Dwight recovered and missed several days of school.
