Local items list visitors and guests in Fairbury Steele City and area. Families attend educational events, births announced, and residents travel to Assaria Indianola Topeka and Chicago. Local businesses report sales and upcoming installation of scales plus club secretary election and university connections.
Last Sunday the Presbyterian Church conducted mission work at the morning service with a choir performance of Thy Kingdom Come. Elna Arner led the Seniors and Miss Henriksen directed the intermediates for the joint evening service.
For the weekend of May 13 14 15 Union Pacific offers round trip chairs from Steele City to Kansas City for $3 75, and to Excelsior Springs for $4 75. Tickets go on sale at stations with return information via Union Pacific Agent.
A distant reader recalls Steele City coal famines as winter hardship similar to the present at Thedford. The clipping describes a 19th century crisis with a dozen men organizing to meet freight from Jenkins Mill and distributing coal, including Drury the local druggist who led looting of a coal car and its sale after arrival.
The Steele City Presbyterian church choir plans an Evening Prayer program this Sunday in May. The program features solos, duets, readings, and anthems including My Mother, Mother Machrees, and Evening Time. Rev J Filinger will deliver the benediction.
Steele City held a regular luncheon at Darlings Cafe where permanent chairman was elected for the Commercial Club and T. W. Zoellin named secretary. Members discussed the Jitney Show and the Steele City picture show as the central topic of business.
Warning against letting livestock feed on Brass borders and Steele City streets. Tethered amptals on adjoining private property must be fastened. Property owners urged to secure vacant lots and premises and fence poultry.
A three year old named Avis Pingle had a Tuesday birthday party at Lernoun, hosted by her parents. guests included Me and Mrs Conrad Kiskailt Mrs Ernest Lawrence and others. The event featured ice cream cake and gifts. Separately, Mr and Mrs Roy Shank and two daughters hosted a dinner in Hanover Kansas for Ernest Lawrence and Peter Eckhart as he returned to railroad duties in Topeka Capesfield Nebraska. Carl H Barber of Steele City Nebraska underwent surgery at the Topeka Security Benefit Hospital.
Mr. Cooper moved cattle to Russell Troxal pasture on Thursday. Louis Knoche arrives with cattle to pasture south of Endicott on Monday. Dec Smith buys a truckload of hay on Saturday from John H. Malady. John Janssen tends a horse in the field on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J H Malady visit George Banahan Sunday. Mr and Mrs J Malady spend Monday with the Arnold home and receive visits from Mr and Mrs Meyer on Tuesday.
