In the News Photo Section from last Sunday’s World-Herald, several images depict Nebraska soldiers who took part in the Spanish American War. The photos highlight their service and the era's military history.
The article notes Major C F Scharmann father of Chester Scharmann of Steele City appears in the picture and that he is the only surviving field officer. Kenneth Babcock installed a gasoline tank on the east side of his building this week and will handle Standard Oil. The Ladies Aid will meet next Tuesday April 3 in the church parlors with an planned program. Steele City News priced at $1.00 a year or six months.

Dennie Joe Davis and the Deems family members are improving after illnesses. Mrs Whitney and Mrs Haddix are improving after dental work and illness. The Loth family is out of quarantine after a diphtheria scare. Several people report bad colds or flu and one bee sting left Mr Payne ill.
The Methodist church in Fairbury will stage a gold medal declamatory contest Monday evening April 12 at 8 o'clock. Seven contestants will perform with special music. Admission is free and all are invited. A free will offering will be collected to cover expenses. Church Messenger.
Notice in Jefferson County Nebraska records for estate of Sarah Weillece deceased. Final account and report of administration filed. Court set for bearing on April 7, 1904 at 9:00 A.M. by County Judge K. B. Bee. Interest parties may appear.
The company offers a rate reduction averaging 21.5 percent for Residential and Commercial Lighting and Commercial Power. A new twenty nine year franchise would override the current six year remaining term. Proposed ordinances are at Drake Hardware Palmer Drugs Clarks Store and McLachlin Store for public examination. An election ballot on April 3 194 will decide the action and encourages public participation.
