The 48 year old blind racer Hell Roarin plans to race at Ak-Sar-Ben with Indiana Maid, a six year old mare owned by Mr and Mrs E A Houghton. He began as a jockey in Kentucky before losing sight in 1931, now training horses and relying on others to judge horse condition. Ak-Sar-Ben officials predict a record meet through July 4 with strong entries from top stables and potential county fair subsidies.

Memorial Day Services in Town Hall
Memorial Day observances were held in the Town Hall at 10 o’clock Tuesday morning under the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Maurice Heffman, prosecuting attorney for St. Joseph and Buchanan County Missouri, spoke on American history and the progress toward a glorious new freedom. Agnes Crane Wright led the program and introduced Judge Frankenhoff who introduced the speaker. The service included songs by the audience, a prayer by Hubert Manning, a solo, a reading, a vocal duet, and a cemetery service conducted by the American Legion. Also noted were memorial visitors from Lawrence Kansas and De Witt region.
