Flu Epidemic Bites Local Areas Amid Fire Weather

A flu epidemic that has kept local doctors busy for three weeks eases slightly with the warmer weather. Victims report aching muscles cold and debilitation. recovery comes with medical care and four to seven days of bed rest. Ad of H. Chritmans party was given for members and their children last Monday evening at the home of Mrs. W. Palmer. A tree, treats, presents and refreshments of ice cream, Santa Claus cake and coffee were enjoyed. Wieters Rites Held at Lanham Church for 82 Year Old Farmer

Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church Lanham with Rev L J Wolff officiating and Rev Wm Harder of Hanover speaking in German Interment followed at Lanham cemetery Friedrich Heinrich Wieters born September 24 1857 Norddrebber Provinz Hanover Germany died December 7 1939 at his home northwest of Lanham Nebr He came to America in 1897 married Louise Ritter on September 12 1892 and had six children He and his wife moved to a Lanham northwest farm in 1899 where he lived until his death His wife died February 1919 He leaves a son Henry and five daughters plus thirteen grandchildren and other relatives Guests in the Wells home included A LaBoy Atlanta J E Swartz Byron and Geo Sanford Leville Kans Also a classified notice and ad for a spotted Poland China bear sale.

Steele City Woman's Club Christmas Party

The annual Christmas party will be hosted by Mrs. Williams at the manse on Thursday evening, December 21. Hostesses include Mrs. Howard Wright Mrs. Chester Scharmann Mrs. Rosa Andrews and Mrs. Nelle Megonigie. An appropriate program and exchange of Christmas gifts are planned.

Recreational Mates Schedule and Club Update

The Sakakawea Girls' Club and associated groups announce December activities including Boys Hobby Club after school on December 18, Girls Sewing Class December 19 at 4 15 p m, Saka kawea Girls' Club December 21 at 4 15 p m, and December 22 basket weaving for all ages. The December 7 meeting at Irene Carmchael’s home featured a business session led by Betty June Johnson, Christmas games under Mrs Megonigle, with light refreshments. The Recreation Center decor features two Christmas transparencies and the next literary is set for January 3, 1940.

Kensington Club Sees 14 Members and One Visitor

The B. B. Kensington met on Tuesday November 28 at Mrs. Ernest Lawrence home with fourteen members and one visitor Mrs. Cletus Bugbee. Afternoon games and refreshments of jellied fruit salad cupcakes and coffee followed. Christmas plans include a December 19 meeting with Mrs. Matrie Wolkens and a ten cent value limit for gifts.
