The Missionary Society meets Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. May Lowe Geart’s home and plans a literary program for Wednesday evening December 4 at the hall with a small admission charge. Neighbors celebrated Andy Snodgrass’s birthday last Monday with cake ice cream and games including rock and dominoes.
The Wednesday evening event in the church basement drew a good crowd. Readings and musical performances featured as Mrs. B. A. Greenwood led the program. Ticket holders received numbered gift packages, adding a Christmas tree feel. Lunch of pie and coffee followed, with candy and popcorn sales. Fairbury decorates the city again for Christmas.
Local residents spent Thanksgiving with family and friends across Cuba Kansas Hastings College students from Hastings, and visitors from Wisner Fairbury Steele City Reynoldsp Plymouth Pawnee City and other towns. Newsroom renovations noted as improving workspace and comfort for staff.
The Young Woman's Guild will meet at Gertrude Wehling's home on December 9 with a covered dish supper. The group will dedicate the mite boxes. Mild Hughes will lead the lesson on Parables of the Bible.
Records list transfers reported by J. Monroe Davis and Son. Barbara Kiskait widow sells to Bethel Fern Lawrence and to Mildred Pingel with warranty deeds and 1.00 consideration. A Presbyterian church asks members to reflect on their relationship with God and for Sunday school attendance. Reports on last Sunday’s services praise music, sermon on God as shepherd, and youth participation. Notices list upcoming meetings led by Donald Winner, trustee board, Missionary Society, Young Woman's Guild dinner, and Thanksgiving hospitality from Wallace Palmer family.
Miss Grace Graves is reported ill. Rev. C. F. Luscher of Endicott visited Steele City. Miss Berniece Gretzinger, a York teacher, spent Thanksgiving with home folks. Bert and Mrs Greenwood joined son Hugh for Thanksgiving. Noakes family hosted visits with Maude Davis. H. W. Haddix returned from Chappell Nebraska. John Rohlfs family of Hollenberg joined W. F. Wehling for Thanksgiving. Ghester Scharmann and others visited in Narka Kansas.
Mr and Mrs Howard Rathbun of Omaha visited his mother Mrs Margaret Rathbun and other relatives. Miss Betty Doebele of Washington Kansas spent Thanksgiving with Elmer Kersting. Miss Ruth Gretzinger of Hastings College stayed with her parents Mr and Mrs Adam Gretzinger. Mr and Mrs Geo McLachlin and Mr and Mrs H M Manning attended Fairbury Beatrice football game. Mrs Elmer Kersting Mrs Frank Crinklaw and Miss Betty Doebele went to Marysville Kansas to see Mrs H B Rucker.
Mr and Mrs Warren Adee and their son visited the former's parents Mr and Mrs H H Adee last Wednesday. They departed for home on Tuesday morning.
Miss Erdine Haddix a State University student spent the Thanksgiving vacation with relatives in Steele City and Fairbury. She returned to Lincoln.
Bert Greenwood and wife hosted Sunday guests including the Bert Hughes family Pauline Smith and Darwin Floyd Hughes and family Hugh Greenwood and family. Mrs S Thompson of Bisbee Arizona visited last week with the Thompson family after attending a YWCA National board meeting in Chicago. Dr Earl Kendall and wife Omaha W L Haddix and wife Fairbury Mrs N M Forsha and Vance Boileau Steele City were dinner guests of Mrs Lissie Phelps and Mrs E W Kendall on Thanksgiving day.
Visitors in the H. W. Haddix home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. John Thornburg and daughter Jacqueline of Fairbury Howard Haddix and wife of Fairbury Miss Erdine Haddix of Lincoln E. W. Baird and family of Mondamin Iowa and Mrs Lissie Phelps and Mrs E W Kendall of Steele City.
