A housewife’s morning solution to lethargy uses coffee as a nudge and a simple creamed eggs on toast recipe. The method relies on letting the partner awaken to aroma and a quick kitchen effort. The cream sauce blends milk, salt, pepper, paprika, canned peppers, parsley, and hard boiled eggs over toast for four servings. The coffee is best fresh from vacuum packed cans to stay fragrant.
Labor Day approaches next Monday and school starts September 3. Rural carrier Chester Wilcox resumes duties after a vacation. Town brief items include fair attendance in Belleville, ambulance services by Saipply Mortuary, and local visits and travels of residents. Notables attend Legion events, church services, and a kids musical at the Improvement Company hall with costumes and community pride.
New business by Royal Neighbors of America from January 1 to July 1 1934 rose 119 percent to 12 807 795 dollars compared with 5 843 775 dollars a year earlier. The society gained 25 112 new members, including 8 765 adults and 16 587 juveniles, reflecting improved economic conditions and a total membership near 600 000 across 45 states.
The school year starts September 8 with two new teachers joining the staff. Principal Bernice Henriksen and Superintendent E. P. Peterson announce a hopeful enrollment and urge continued parent involvement. School on September 3 will end at noon.
The Missionary Society will meet at 2:30 PM on Friday September 7 at Mrs Sadie Kendall’s home. Roll call will cover current events.
The Pythian Sisters will serve pigs in blankets pie doughnuts and coffee at the ball park on Saturday afternoon and evening September 8th.
Next Tuesday afternoon September 4 the Ladies Aid convenes at the Presbyterian church parlors. A good program is planned and a strong turnout is hoped for.
The Board of Education orders Kenneth Babcock’s vacated building to be fitted for a new store as a resident guardian is appointed for a non resident child attending local school during the 1934 1935 term.
Local note invites Steele City band enthusiasts to gather at the drug store Monday at 5 PM. Wallace Palmer, president, calls attendance and promotes the Juniorette Review event at the hall tomorrow night. Market report section includes wheat corn hog prices and mentions top values.
The Steele City team led Daykin 9 to 3 on Sunday hoping to win next Sunday against Harbine. Mr and Mrs Howard Drake and Walter E Willey attended the Jefferson County Republican convention in Fairbury with Mrs Drake and Mr Willey as delegates from Newton precinct.
