Tahiti and Makura remembered by Mrs Dill in New Zealand voyage

Mrs Dill recalls the R M S Tahiti well known to her and the R M S Makura on a trip from New Zealand housed in the Cook Strait en route to Sydney and San Francisco. She describes the passing harbor scene with waving passengers and a band as the liner nears Ohbiro Bay.

Gas Pipeline Blast Shocks Rural Community

A gas line burst on the Will Luering farm Sunday causing a large explosion. High heat and burning gas sent flames hundreds of feet into the air while rains had washed dirt from the pipes. Nearby residents and townspeople gathered at a safe distance as a corn field suffered extensive scorched damage.

Blue Valley Kensington plans a gathering August 2 at Mrs. Gertrude Franken’s home. Neighbors recall a surprise party for Mrs Abba Roek near Steele City. Hughes & Zoellia store ownership changed with an unfamiliar successor. Chas Johnston and daughter from Hollywood visited Mrs. Howard Drake’s home. Pete Wenz family and Betty Lee visited near Diller. Various local residents and travelers were noted in weekly social updates.

Nebraska schools approved for free high school tuition

State Superintendent Charles W. Taylor informs Steele City and nearby districts that Davin Diller Endicott Fairbury Plymouth Resnolds Steele City and West Bower are approved under section 6356 for free high school tuition for specified years for the 1930-31 school year and exempt from county tax for the indicated grades. the seal of Nebraska accompanies the notice.

Rainy week sparks fall field prep and pasture boost

A heavy Friday night downpour and recent rains soak the ground for fall plowing and seeding and provide abundant pasture for fall feed. Chanute Kansas, with a 10 000 population, has built a municipal water plant electric light and power plant and gas distribution system. Profits funded a municipal airport memorial building and city services, reducing taxes. Mrs Paul Beckwith and her children of Omaha visit the Guy Cassell home this week.
