The fair features Auto Traces, John Robinson's Circus, and Gordon's firework shows every evening. Band concerts, demonstrations, judging contests, and exhibits fill each day. Rev Billy Sunday will speak twice on Sunday, with a strong attendance expected on Labor Day as crowds gather, campgrounds ready and eating places open.
Officials announce an $80 fine for using branded cream cans for mailbox posts slop or oil containers. The penalty applies to both individuals and the company SSpace. Rusted or leaky cans are deemed acceptable after being rolled smooth and tin dipped, making them “as good as new.”
Eva B. Shuman promotes high standards and school investment as essential for children’s future. A political ad outlines W M Stebbins Republican senatorial bid. Local social updates note multiple regional visits and travels, including Bartley residents in Des Moines and other families visiting relatives across Nebraska.
The tri county picnic was at Camp Alexandria on August 7. The Plymouth Boosters toured Steele City last Saturday afternoon to advertise the Firemen’s Picnic set for August 7 and 8. Their jovial band music drew the small crowd on the streets. Alfred Brabec and family from Lincoln visited the Haddix home from Sunday to Wednesday, with Vernon L. Haddix accompanying them. Glen Riddle works on a stock rack for his truck, soon ready to haul stock to market by road.
Howard Haddix and his wife visited Tuesday evening with his parents H. W. Haddiz and wife in Fairbury. The Diller annual two days picnic is scheduled for August 12 and 13.
Weather notes describe a misty Tuesday evening with heavy rain that cooled temps briefly then gave way to intense heat on Wednesday. Rainfall varied, with Tekamah reporting 5 to 7 inches and a near miss from a tornado, while Fremont saw wind damage and about 1.5 inches of rain.
Claude Woods son of County Commissioner W. L. Woods reports a standout wheat harvest from 80 acres near Steele City. The field yielded 2,168 bushels, about 27 bushels per acre, notable for a large plot with no special soil treatment or alfalfa or clover cover.
A birthday event in Lincoln featured Miss Xenia Rightour at her aunt Mrs. T. W. Baillie’s home. Four couples swam at a lake, then returned for dancing and a late lunch. The Fremont Tribune notes further local happenings and farm market updates.
Carl Barber and his wife traveled to Kansas City Monday to see relatives for several days, while Dell Heary conducted business in Fairoury on Tuesday.
