State Fair opens with diversions and Sunday addresses

The fair features Auto Traces, John Robinson's Circus, and Gordon's firework shows every evening. Band concerts, demonstrations, judging contests, and exhibits fill each day. Rev Billy Sunday will speak twice on Sunday, with a strong attendance expected on Labor Day as crowds gather, campgrounds ready and eating places open.

Farmers warned against branded cream can use for mailbox posts

Officials announce an $80 fine for using branded cream cans for mailbox posts slop or oil containers. The penalty applies to both individuals and the company SSpace. Rusted or leaky cans are deemed acceptable after being rolled smooth and tin dipped, making them “as good as new.”

County 4-H Picnic and Fair Dates Announced

The tri county picnic was at Camp Alexandria on August 7. An August 11 trip to Lincoln precedes fair time with judging in livestock poultry crops dairy baked goods room improvement canning and clothing. The August 15 Jefferson county wide 4-H picnic at Camp Jefferson features health champion selection and games led by H. K. Douthit and Newton W. Gaines. The County Fair runs August 26 to 29 and the State Fair August 29 to September 5.

Plymouth Boosters Promote Firemen Picnic in Steele City

The Plymouth Boosters toured Steele City last Saturday afternoon to advertise the Firemen’s Picnic set for August 7 and 8. Their jovial band music drew the small crowd on the streets. Alfred Brabec and family from Lincoln visited the Haddix home from Sunday to Wednesday, with Vernon L. Haddix accompanying them. Glen Riddle works on a stock rack for his truck, soon ready to haul stock to market by road.

Howard Haddix and his wife visited Tuesday evening with his parents H. W. Haddiz and wife in Fairbury. The Diller annual two days picnic is scheduled for August 12 and 13.
