Mrs. Lewis Bugbee and her son Virgil returned the last of the week from Akron and Cole. Mrs. P D Earhart accompanied them and stopped at Mitchell to visit her daughter Mrs. Lewis Whittaker. Mr and Mrs Moakee and their daughters from Alma Nebraska are visiting Mrs Moake’s mother Mrs Maude Davie at the local telephone office.
Pre-nuptial showers honor Miss Maxine Earhart and other social events fill the Fairbury week. Miss Earhart will wed Elwyn Dees of Lawrence Kansas on Sunday. W.C.T.U. convention set for August 10 with programs and officers to be elected. Also reported are birthday reminders, a farm yield average, a quilting bee and Gage County Fair dates August 24 to 27.
The usual Presbyterian Sunday school service drew good attendance despite heat as efficient teachers led eager classes during the pastor Rev Filinger's vacation. The pastor and family returned from a Chicago course and meanwhile planned summer visits to Cave and Narca. Ladies, Missionary, and Young Woman's Guild activities were announced for mid August. Nine Steele City girls competed in Jefferson county beauty pageant at Bonham theatre. Nebraska State Fair schedule for September promises broad entertainment education and beauty. Ellen Clapp visited from Lincoln and Glenn Kiddle began work at Fairchild brick yards.

It notes inventory and final decree proceedings and the division of real estate by court decree among the heirs. The notice is signed by County Judge R. Ber.
Zerelda Kuper daughter of Mrs. John H. Kuper of Diller married Roy Pusey son of Mrs. Pusey of Reynolds Sunday afternoon at Hope Reformed Church of Harbine Rev Grieb officiated in a simple ceremony attended by close relatives. The bride wore white organza over taffeta and carried pink rose buds with baby’s breath. maid of honor Kathryn Harriss wore peach chiffon. Best man was Harold Schueler. A reception followed at the home of Mr and Mrs Harry Baker. The couple plan farming and teaching career in Jefferson County area.
The Missionary Society plans a meeting with Mrs Maude Haddix on Wednesday afternoon August 12 with large attendance desired. Other community members attended a Fairbury picnic and family gathering at City Park last Saturday including Dr A M Neddall and family visiting Gilead and relatives in Steele City. Rev C F Luscher of Endicott was a visitor in Steele City Tuesday afternoon.
Elmer Janssen returning from Denver visits family. Leon Long and wife arrive from Ramberg Town. Cassel hauled wheat to Steeleith crater on Saturday for Joan Malady. Herman Janssen works in Plymouth digging railroad pipe. Cecil Noutter threshes his wheat on Shepherd farm Tuesday. Henry Meyers and wife spend time at Epic Oaks. Art Kenning threshes for John Malachy. Bill Cook of Odeli visits Thursday for threshing. Walter James assists with cloak room at Rose Hill school. John Malady and Art Kenning visit E Hoppy home Friday afternoon.
The Ladies Aid gathered in the church basement on Wednesday afternoon with a large turnout. Mrs Emma Pearson led devotionals from Psalms 23. The program, organized by Mrs Calvin Sampson, featured a magazine style layout with a cover photo solo by Mrs Chas Clark editorial by Mrs Lowe fiction by Helen Welling poems on piano by Mrs Lyle Cassell children's page by Avis Pingel and a style section by Nelle Megonigle. A gift was given to president Mrs H Andersen for her silver wedding anniversary. Miss Bessie Rucker read the members’ names and a two tier white cake with twenty five dimes was served alongside white cupcakes and homemade ice cream prepared by Mesdames R Cassell C Lampe A Haghe L Dill and C Bracken.
Dr G M Kendal and wife with daughter Kay of New Paltz NY visited the former's parents Mr and Mrs E W Kendall and called on Mrs N M Forsha in Kansas City. They stayed with relatives including Mrs A T Phelps and Mrs V L Haddix. An annual picnic may be held August 13 and 14.
