Adam Bortko a Polish homesteader traveling with lumber and lime for Back Lumber Yard of Meadow was badly injured when his wagon capsized on a steep incline at Plat Creek twelve miles south of town. He suffered a fractured left hip, a deep wound on the right side, and severe leg contusions. Rescuers freed him after about half an hour, he received aid at a nearby farm, then was taken to town where he began to recover slowly. He is married with a child and lives west of Meadow.
