Washington Sept 1 treasury department reports a monthly drop of 2 254 573 in the public debt with a small rise in interest bearing debt and a larger cash surplus. Total gold reserves stand at 242 543 696 with gold certificates at 128 387 379 and silver assets 454 403.17 against silver certificates and notes of 432 40. The national debt excluding the surplus is 838 074 075, with 555 031 080 in interest bearing securities. Receipts in August total 34 032 928 while expenditures reach 32 080 779.
