Half a million visitors filled the grounds while a ten mile parade line welcomed the crowd. Holt’s North Carolina building and speeches at the fair foregrounded state pride and progress before a throng of invited guests.

Beavers Falls Strike Turmoil and Pay Day Clash

Homestead Pa Oct 22 Three strikers entered the mill last night abusing non union workers. Clashes with other workers occurred. deputies arrested the trio but released them on Captain Newton’s advice. A large striker demonstration followed and non union workers were urged to stay in the mill or move to Pittsburgh. About $70 000 was paid to workers on pay day. A Saturday meeting of locked out workers drew speakers from Pittsburgh. Rumors of Beaver Falls men returning to work caused surprise and could dampen resolve.

Wake Forest Wins 16 to 0 Over Washington and Lee

Wake Forest defeats Washington and Lee 16 to 0 in a hard fought clash on Virginia soil. Wake Forest, despite injuries from the VMI game, used strong teamwork and substitutes to overpower the Virginians. Blanton Britton Boiles and Wilson starred in blocking, running and tackling. UNC fell 30 to 18 to Virginia University in a separate report with Parker and Hoke noted for strong play.
