The Exposition swirl continues with high expectations for attendance and strong exhibits. Georgia Days feature lectures by state officials and editors, with Gov. Northern anticipated to speak. Florida Days follow with Governor Fleming among speakers. A Real Estate convention runs Oct 20 23, and a daily Indian La Crosse game entertains visitors.
President Harrison attended the Ecumenical conference and praised the foreign delegates. Key addresses came from Sir Julian Pounceforte and Charles Foster. In Wilson County, Alliance members adopted resolutions denouncing attacks on leaders and endorsing Ocala principles. a November 22 dedication is planned with Bishop Galloway presiding.
Bets of ten to six are laid in New York on Flower's election while dollar for dollar wagers compare Mc Kinley and Campbell in the Ohio election. A Reading Pa user reports complete success with Ely's Cream Balm for chronic catarrh and no recurrence after over a year.
Oakland in Raleigh expands from Morde cai’s grove as Capital City land company buys 47 acres. Officers include A T Nichols and J A Porter. Streets laid out with Oakland street and Porter avenue, streetcar extension planned. 70 to 80 foot front lots, Briggs residence sold for 5000 dollars, 100 workers by month end, rail line to finish by the 28th, aims for a refined, prosperous neighborhood with strict buyer standards.
Col A K McClure, famed American orator and Northern journalist ally of the South, will address Exposition visitors on October 20 and 21. Ex-Governor Thomas J Jarvis will also speak, with events held on Exposition grounds Wednesday October 21.
Danville reports George W. Martin a respected local citizen arraigned before a U S Commissioner on a warrant for sending lascivious letters through the mails. Gen W H F Lee buried at Ravensworth. Mrs Allen G Thurman dies in Columbus. News notes a fatal affray between U S and Chilean sailors with a boatsman killed and six injured at Valparaiso.
Trinity challenges the University for a football game on the 29th and Wake Forest for the 30th to decide the state championship. Trinity also accepts Washington-Lee University of Lexington Va. to Raleigh on November 4. The Northern Settlers Convention meets in Raleigh with officials invited. The Good Samaritans loom large in Raleigh with a Grand Lodge session at the courthouse next Tuesday and a parade planned. Col A K McClure will speak at the Exposition. Simmons Liver Regulator praised for bilious disorders.
Public meeting scheduled at the Mayor's office on Monday night to organize receptions for Col. A. K. McClure who speaks Wednesday, the Florida governor Thursday, and the 5th Maryland regiment next week, aiming to boost the Exposition and please visiting guests from all regions. Raleigh residents urged to extend hearty welcomes.
The Greensboro North State will move to Raleigh as an organ of Republican office-holders. Editors considered include Rufis Amis who demanded $1,200 and Thomas R. Purnell who will edit possibly part time to reduce costs. Keough and Boyd previously ran the paper, now praised as independent before its shift to office-holder control.
At a Friday night meeting of college professors the association unanimously elected new officers led by President Dr George T Winston and first Vice President Dr Charles E Taylor. Second Vice President Prof N C English, third Vice President Dr W D Connell, and Secretary Prof W A Withers were also chosen.
Mr and Mrs T B Lindsay of Deep Springs visited Madison on Monday after four days in Raleigh returning from the Exposition. They praised state and southern exhibits and commended Lindsay’s experimental farm display. They report visitors complimented the exhibit at the Exposition.
