New York Oct 6 Lieutenant Governor Edward F Jones issued a public statement defending his stance against the Saratoga ticket tied to Tammany Hall He argues alignment with Tilden and Jeffersonian principles while warning that Saratoga gains could empower Tammany to control both state and national government He urges voters to consider consequences before backing the opposing slate. Supreme Court Second District cases noted include Grubbs versus Virginia Fire and Marine Insurance.

Special to Start Chronicle Cuartotter North Carolina October 6. W D L Alexander a farmer living near Huntersville died last night from an overdose of morphine. He took the drug for pain relief and there is no reason to believe he intended to kill himself. He simply made a mistake and took an overdose.
Mrs. Hanna wife of George B. Hanna an assayer at the U S assay office in this city collapsed and died on Seventh Street at 6 30 this afternoon. The bereaved husband is regarded as one of Charlotte’s most respected citizens and sympathy pours in from the community.
Senator Calvin S. Brice denies claims by Ralph Wilkinson that Governor Campbell is 500000 in debt and involved in stock gambling. Brice says he never knew Wilkinson and Gov Campbell did not speculate. Campbell urges New York and other papers to retract libelous articles.
Ex Representative Yoder arrived from Ohio and expresses confidence in Campbell winning the election. He cites enthusiastic Republican meetings on tariff reform, farmer interest and suspicion of the McKinley bill. Yoder labels an iron display trick at McKinley rallies as harmful and predicts Democrats will carry the Legislature and win the Governor.
