Winston In Ashes After North Carolina Fire

A massive blaze in Winston last night destroyed principal business blocks, a large tobacco warehouse, and a leaf factory. The fire began at Brown & Brown drug store around midnight, spread to the Haines and Vaughan buildings and the First National bank block, burning for about twelve hours. Loss totals around 250,000 with insured value uncertain. Fire engines from Salem and Greensboro aided efforts, and the Winston military company protected stock. an incendiary fire near the Richmond and Danville depot also burned Abbott and Jones tobacco warehouse and eleven horses. In the same city, officials organized guards as a precaution against further damage.
