Senate debate on Cuba and Spain policy and naval bill

Washington May 12. The Senate discussed Cuba and Antilles policy including a joint resolution for a Cuba independence plan, two Cuba Spain negotiation proposals, registry of a ship China, and silver coinage. It advanced the naval appropriation bill with amendments, reserved action on future battleships, and adjourned to tomorrow.

Nugent Sentenced in London Assault Case

Patrick Greville Nugent, brother of Lord Greville, pleaded guilty to a common assault on Miss Marion Price aboard a London and Brighton railway carriage. He received six months in prison with hard labor and was ordered to pay court costs. The case caused a social uproar as Nugent hails from a distinguished Anglo-Irish lineage.
