Clarence A Aldrich for Attorney General. Platform backs President Cleveland and criticizes tariff and Republican policy.
Washington March 22 the Senate advanced the five new committee clerks proposal and a labor cost study resolution. Mr Manderson resigned as president pro tem and Mr Harris took oath after the vote. Debate rose over vacancies and illegal fillings, followed by executive session and adjournment. Oxford wedding and local impacts noted amid regional stories. Fire at Knoxville University destroys three story brick building with 14 000 loss. Nominations to the Senate announced including patents and land office posts. Two Black men hanged in Hazlehurst for murder and robbery. several accomplices at large.
In Chicago circuit court a James W Dixon sues to strip Henry A Root and Henry W Dixon of control over Henry W Dixon's property. The eight year tale involves hypnotism, Mrs. F D Haywood, and $20 000 in two $10 000 certificates held by Central Safety Deposit Company.
Washington March 22 Judge Henry A Robinson of Detroit has been appointed statistician of the department of agriculture to succeed J R Douge who has been issuing the government crop reports for many years.
In Austin on March 22 the Texas railroad commission injunction case lingered with discussions and a request for more time to consider adding charges. If the matter goes to the supreme court, the commission hopes to resolve a legal point on bondholders’ right to sue, potentially ending the suit suddenly. Also, J Pierpont Morgan was reported to be on a mission in New York to negotiate a $50 million gold loan for the government, and Admiral Cervera resigned as Spain’s marine minister with Premier Sagasta taking over marine duties temporarily.
Atlanta March 22 A interview with Hon Thos E Wynn ex congressman Ninth Georgia district exchanges that only two great parties remain and that if Democrats uphold their platform the People’s Party will yield credit and act accordingly. Thos E Watson agrees that if pledges in the Democratic platform are kept the people will be satisfied. The remarks signal rapid third party dissolution if the Democratic line holds. Railway cases and a sad death in Mecklenburg county follow with notes on Keeley cures and Moody’s invitation controversy.

Terms: one third cash, one third in nine months, one third in fifteen months with notes bearing interest from sale at 8 percent. Title reserved until paid.
