Harwood assists, and preparations were emphasized for college and life readiness. The previous year was noted as the most successful in the academy’s history, and parents are urged to enroll promptly at the addressed principal’s office.
The Uaford Female Seminary at Oxford, NoC begins its fourth annual session on August 1 with degrees in B A and G K and courses including English, business, type-writing, and stenography. Notable graduates hail from the University of Virginia, the Sanrear ea of Languages, Cooper Union, Philadelphia Conservatory, and Royal Conservatory of Berlin.
Reports from London and Aberkenfig Wales describe a catastrophic mining explosion with 141 miners trapped. Rescue efforts clash with collapsing galleries, fire, and ventilator difficulties as hundreds gather and wait for word on the fate of the entombed workers. Six bodies recovered by 12:50 p.m. local time amid ongoing attempts to reach survivors.

The American Bar Association elected officers including President J Randolph Tucker and Secretary Edward Otis Hinkley, with an extensive list of vice presidents and executive committee members from across states. A separate item reports James R Morton hanged in Campen N J for a brutal murder planned for money, with priestly observances at execution.
Telegraph reports in Amens Ga describe the Wilson family tragedy in Madison County. Four children died within about forty minutes from a rattlesnake bite and drowning after the mother found two dead siblings near a house spring and the baby drowned in the spring. A rattlesnake was later killed under the house.
Reports from August 26 describe Asiatic cholera reaching England aboard the Gemma with two deaths, and cholera outbreaks spreading from Hamburg to Paris, Vienna, Havre, and St. Petersburg. Cities implement disinfection, passengers are denied entry, and emigration from Russia faces strict limits while U.S. health authorities order sanitation measures.
In New York and Burraro on August 26, a rebellion against Grand Master Sweeny erupts within the switchmen’s union. Vice Grand Master Barrett of Chicago emerges as the rival leader. Some lines resume work on the Lackawanna but many roads stay disrupted. Barrett vows continued action and has formed a committee to report on conditions while troops withdraw and fears of violence rise among temporary replacements.
Dr Dolan testified that the killer may have struck while Mrs Borden stood or after she fell, and that the murderer stood astride the body with blood on clothing. Skulls were removed and photographed as the bodies were buried without heads. Witnesses described the grisly scene as Lizzie and Emma showed distress.

In Goldsboro North Carolina Dr Pat Exum third party governor candidate attempts to sway editor Mr Roscower of the Goldsboro Headlight by offering 20 000 subscribers in exchange for suppressing his remarks as telegraphed to the Chronicle on August 25 The editor declines saying democracy is good enough. Exums political maneuvering causes him a sickness in the public eye.
