A hotel fire from the laundry room and elevator shaft destroyed the Belmont near Asheville early this morning. Most of the 176 guests escaped. several had narrow escapes leaping from the third floor to the ground. Losses included diamonds, cash, and furniture. The Belmont cost 60,000 dollars and was insured for 25,000, owned by the Washeville Improvement Company with furniture insured for 25,000. Notable guests included Mrs. Geo. E. Wilson and son Hamilton of Charlotte and Dr. Hawkins of Raleigh.
