Bohemian Girl at Pike's House Impresses Mixed Audiences
A splendid audience saw the Bohemian Girl last night at Pike's house with Brookhouse Bowler as Thaddeus and Walter Birch as Florentin. Birch sang with spirit though Balfe’s role could use more balance. Simonsen performed despite a cold which excuses some dramatic flaws. Zelda 8 as the Gypsy Queen was the evening's single success. tonight features Faust scenes and two acts of The Jewess. Gods' Theater was well filled and the jesting routine in the juggling acts drew attention. Monday night Lawrence Barrett begins a return engagement with Robn son and the company in a string of legitimate roles, marking a welcome contrast to sensational fare.

Ghostly Lincoln phantom ride spooks April rails tale
An Albany Evening Times writer recounts a superstition bound night watchman tale on the New York Central describing a phantom train yearly in April. The vision includes a coffin bearing Lincoln and vast armies, with clocks stopping and watches running behind by minutes. The piece also notes Ossian myths and Macphersons disputed translations.

River conditions and harbor notes from Pittsburg
Weather in Pittsburg mild and pleasant while the river shows mixed stages. The main channel holds 4 feet 3 inches as another section falls to 4 feet. Freight inland is ample but horse disease hampers loading to the wharf. Louisville canal lock gates are installed with one set hung and the other to be placed, signaling possible full operation next week.
