Dispatches report Carlist successes with insurgents surrounding key points in Cuba and defeating government troops near Ripoll. Advices say General Correganyol reforms his army at Alaya and May contend offensively against the government forces.
The Treasury announces April operations to purchase bonds totaling 1 million dollars and to sell gold totaling 6 million dollars. Planned bond purchases are April 9 and 23 for 500 thousand dollars each. Gold sales are set for April 3, 10, 17, and 24, totaling 6 million.
Reports from Key West indicate Cuban Patriots scored another victory against Spain with a strategic point taken. Changes in Cuba’s U S representation are planned, with Jose Mayorga resigning and a Confidential Agency replacing the former office. In Pittsburgh, Tom Scott mediates a railroad clash as the Pennsylvania Central clashes with the Baltimore and Ohio over the Mount Pleasant junction, threatening escalation and potential violence.
Brooklyn reports detail a jealous Spaniard named Roscoe who tracked his rival to the Goodrich home. He forced entry, confronted Goodrich and Katé Stoddard, then shot Goodrich in the basement before firing again at another man and fleeing with valuables. Mrs Myers aided the scene and later described the full murder history. Roscoe may have fled to Cuba or New Orleans.
A hurricane swept Canton Mississippi on Friday night destroying many houses and injuring several people. Two loaded cars were lifted from the railroad track and one was badly wrecked.
A dispatch reports a wreck on the Reno laer and Saratoga railroad near Saratoga Saturday night. An engine and cars plunged down a 40 foot embankment, the engine rolling twice. Three men on the engine died instantly and 15 to 20 passengers were badly injured. A second report says six killed and many injured. Telegraph lines were down, delaying details of names and precise counts.
In Philadelphia during a high wind on Saturday P M G W Hamerly proprietor of the Germantown Chronicle was knocked down by a sign blown from Chestnut street. He suffered severe injuries and is confined to bed.
The low barometer area moves east from the Dakotas toward the St Lawrence Valley with southerly winds and cloudy to threatening skies in the Middle States and New England. Monday evening clears with light to fresh westerly winds from Virginia to the South Atlantic and Eastern Gulf. Interior Gulf region sees north and west winds with clear skies. another low barometer zone develops west of Dakota and Nebraska.
The Ohio House considers measures on fish protection extending to Lewistown Reservoir, immediate damages for railroad landowners, fire commission board creation in Cincinnati, and authority to appoint fish commissioners. It debates a constitutional convention seating resolution, township supervisor abolition, and boards of equalization in cities. Adjourned after committee actions.
A brutal street fight after a Sunday gathering ends with John Haning fatally stabbing George Summers. W. Smith and Charles Kuhn are charged as fellow combatants. Summers and Haning are hospitalized, with doctors warning the victim faces slim chances of recovery. Police arrest the four men. Peter McArthur, Esq. is severely ill with typhoid fever at his father's Dayton residence.
The Kentucky Senate did not convene today as the Hovice met through the night to debate a bill to suppress lawlessness. Advocates pressed for a vote while opponents blocked it, turning the chamber into a moblike scene. At 7:15 AM a compromise set the bill as the special order for Tuesday.

Judge Yorce sentences Fatver day and Wm J Stewart to seven and two years in penitentiary for burglary and grand larceny. One year for a burglary, with other court motions and attachments discussed. Several civil actions heard before Judge Burnet and Judge Avery. April sessions scheduled with cases to be submitted and numbers filed by April 8.
In Max Lansbury v Mohr Solomon and Mohr the verdict for defendants was set aside upon motion. Probate Court names Peter R. B. Taft administrator with will annexed of Daniel Robinson with a $50 006 bond. James T. Haynes named administrator of Jacob Yanney with $1 500 personal and $8 500 realty.
The Republican City Executive Committee met last Saturday and outlined plans to hold ward meetings on Friday evening of April 4 for nominating and electing judges and forming committees. They urged cooperation from the Gene Committee and instructed each member to organize his ward and visit candidates to secure subscriptions for ward purposes, reports due to the Finance Committee within three days.
