Ninteen men women and children endured five months on a drifting ice floe after the Polaris became beset in 1872. They built snow huts, hunted a bear for food, and were rescued April 1873 by the Tigress near Labrador coast. Free Fight Leaves Two Men Injured in New York Saloon
In a Sixth Street lager beer saloon last night Peter Boyle and Joseph Carbery fought, two of the opposing party were cut and wounded, and were later taken to the best hospital. Also, Honorable Horace F., a railroad and political figure, died suddenly in the city. He had chaired Lake Shore and Union Pacific, and served in Congress. Anton Sauner, 50, fell from a William Street window during a fire alarm, suffering fatal head injuries. Polaris disaster inquiry is reviewed. Juniata to Disco voyage expected near noon.

An ordinance for 3636 to cover waterworks machinery examination costs including outside engineers was recommended. Another ordinance for 1500 for twelve horses for Street Cleaning was recommended. Also 3000 for paving McMillan Street between Montgomery Road and Madison Turnpike was recommended by the City Solicitor. A 20000 Park Department appropriation was referred to the City Solicitor. The Maretta railroad oil shed fire sufferers petition was laid over for future action.
