The Massachusetts Senate petition to rescind its resolution censuring Charles Sumner was signed by John G. Whittier James T. Fields and thirty other prominent citizens.

Henry Ward Beecher warned that intemperance and infidelity threaten families, but corporate power is the greatest danger to government. He urged reform over revolution, calling wealth a blessing when shared, yet a curse when hoarded or weaponized by huge rail and trade corporations. He noted monopolies as a hidden despot and urged honest wealth, civic duty, and universal labor as paths to liberty. The talk followed a two hour delay by a washout and featured Beecher’s reflections on wealth, morality, and the need to curb corporate influence.
By request of citizens Dr John King of Cincinnati will lecture on Extrascriptural Evidences of the Existence of a Deity on Tuesday at 7 30 P M in the Presbyterian church of Lawrenceburg Rev J R Mitchells sponsoring. The lecture has previously been delivered in Cleves Delhi and Indianapolis and may be brought to Cincinnati with sufficient interest. A lecture at Cleves is announced for Sunday week with the subject Two and Two Make Our.

A nuisance complaint cites several lots, and a request to block a lot on Central Avenue and Todd Street was referred to Improvements. Swift & Co seeks riverfront use for one year to build a steamboat hall for the U S Government, referred to Public Landing. P F Taylor resigns as 6th ward assessor. an election to fill the vacancy and a market master election amendment are approved. Claims totaling 3869.41 are allowed.
The Covington City Council met with President Mosher presiding. It adopted a resolution directing the City Attorney to condemn a west-adjacent lot fronting 100 feet on Second street near Water-works. It approved street repairs on Twelfth and Thirteenth streets and a paving ordinance. Contracts for Russell and Tenth streets were awarded, and a gas lighting cost reduction was approved.
At a Philadelphia Franklin Institute meeting on Tuesday evening a resolution was adopted urging the Centennial Commission to appoint commissioners to collect the most important iron ores from the several states and territories and publish the results of their examination.
