City Council Shifts to Wednesday Meetings

The city council will hold meetings on the first and third Wednesdays starting Oct 2, at 2 p.m. When city hall closes in summer, sessions move to the first and third Mondays. Wednesday afternoons also end the half day holiday for city hall workers.

Discharged inmate and wife severely slashed at home

A Manteno state hospital discharge inmate and his wife were found critically injured in Ottawa Street home. Notes imply the man slashed his wife then attempted suicide. Deputies reported blood splatters in the kitchen and two victims rushed to St Joseph hospital.
