Some 5 281 persons from 3 888 families on relief eligible for work await final word from Washington to start WPA projects. Officials expect approval within one to two weeks. J W McCarthy of the WPA here says current county projects will end, then unemployed move to Will county highway work. Only 102 men have been employed so far. 57 projects from this county have been sent to Washington, excluding those from taxing authorities.

United States Steel to Erect New Wire Mills and Dismantle Furnaces

Two Companions Die In Auto Crash Near Plainfield
A car crash on the Lincoln Highway near the suicide curve west of Plainfield killed Frank Baxter 63 of Aurora. His companions Raymond Baxter 50 and Guy Jackson 22 of Kentucky suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized at St. Joseph’s hospital where Baxter died two hours after arrival. Jackson remains seriously injured with spinal trauma. Deputy Coroner Willard Blood reports speed and loss of control at the sharp curve caused the crash. Arrangements for the inquest are pending. The curve at Aurora is known for fatal incidents despite proper banks and signs.
