Joliet council halted its session for a five minute recess to hear Hillcrest Shopping Center is ready to negotiate annexation. The council amended an Oct. 21 ordinance banning police and fire protection in the center while extending services to Jan. 1 as talks continue. Mayor Hennessy urged negotiation in good faith with outsiders on annexation.
The council, busy with multiple annexations, notes a policy banning sewer and water extensions to outlying areas. Gov Stratton approves the Old Collins St prison and diagnostic depot annexation, adding 1062 inmates and unlocking more industrial growth north of the prison.
Veterans Day events mark next Wednesday November 11 with a 10:45 a.m. parade through downtown ending at the courthouse square for a war dead tribute. Cantigny post VFW veteran Carl Jeppson says 10 bands will march. Most schools banks and public buildings will close.
Prominent Joliet realtor Patrick D. Fahey proposed selling his Raynor Hills Water Co to Joliet, offering to name his price within 24 hours. He cited annexation pressures, noted a $33,000 Black Rd. improvement claim, and hinted current market value above 750000 for the combined utilities and services.
