Local Veterans Sell Poppies Saturday For War Dead Memorials
Joliet residents will observe Poppy Day Saturday with volunteers from the American Legion Harwood street post and the Canigny post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars collecting at loop corners and visiting homes to solicit donations. A buddy poppy will be given in return, honoring disabled veterans and the memory of the fallen. Poppies are supplied by veterans from Hines Memorial Hospital.

Reverent Decoration Day ceremonies will honor Joliet’s war dead next Thursday. Veterans groups churches schools and civic bodies join a 1:30 pm parade starting at Central School Grounds Webster and Chicago streets. The route includes Jefferson Bluff Ottawa streets ending at Shell monument for 2 pm memorial services led by the Daughters of the G A R.
