Strike Threat Looms Over Joliet Steel Plants

A strike by Big Steel and the United Steelworkers could halt operations at the Viene Wire Co plant with a 24 hour shutdown. July 1 reprieve possible and the vacation shutdown set July 3 through 19. The strike would impact multiple Chicago area plants and rail traffic, affecting the broader economy.

Rape charges dropped against park rangers in Joliet

The state attorney office said rape charges against two Joliet Park district rangers, Manning Hutson and Robert Gruenwald, would be dropped. The rangers will not be employed by the park district and will lose deputy sheriff commissions. The investigation found no force or resistance. the men were accused after the rangers removed a 17 year old girl from a car.
