St Joseph Hospital Construction Approved in Joliet

The board of Joliet’s St Joseph Hospital advisory group voted to proceed with an eight million dollar project replacing the 84 year old facility with 300 beds. Plans call for construction on a 33 acre site west of Larkin Road with completion aimed for next year and funding from Block bequest Hill Burton funds and loans.

Mayor pushes plan for downtown transit center momentum grows

Mayor James P. Hennessy urges immediate construction of a centralized transit center at Jefferson and Scott Streets near the Union Depot. The Joliet Association of Commerce schedules a board meeting led by William J. Joyce to form a committee with railroads and local groups backing the project. A survey on cost is planned with Alexander, Borkon and Westphal to design the center housing bus rail air and water transit under one roof.

Stratton to hear protest on bridge

Gov. Stratton agreed to meet opponents of Inter State Route 80 and a high level bridge for Joliet and Will County. Atty. Robert Thomas said a committee will present petitions to the governor Friday June 12 at 1 30 p m arranged through Rep. Warren L. Wood. About 6000 names expected on petitions by tonight with further letters urged to Noah Mason and Sons Everett M. Dirksen and Paul Douglas opposing the bridge and route.

Police crackdown on truck parking in residential areas

City ordinance prohibits overnight parking of trucks on city streets. Police have cited numerous complaints to City Hall and Police Headquarters. The Spectator reported concerns as residents seek vehicle removals and officers promise citations.
