Safety Week Theme At Joliet Park District

Joliet Park District marks Safety Week focusing on playground safety street crossing bicycle riding and home safety. A bike inspection will award ribbons to passing bikes while a water shortage cancels the planned bike wash. Closures on July 5 prompt a pre Independence Day parade with crest decorations and Citizens of the Week awards for participating children.

10 000 Spectators To Hear General Hirshomn Fourth Of July Show

Joliet residents will pack Joliet Memorial Stadium for the 19th annual Independence Day celebration. The July 4 program begins at 7 p.m with entertainment emceed by Ralph Sherman and a 9:30 p.m. fireworks display. General Hirshorn will speak, with APSA unit commander near Elwood, local performers, and a 2000 dollar fireworks budget. An estimated 10 000 inside the stadium and 15 000 elsewhere will view or hear the event, broadcast on WJOL from 8 to 9 p.m.
