Water authority urged to tap Kankakee River for Joliet needs
President George A. Travers told the Lower Des Plaines Water to Committee that area water shortages by 1975 require forming a regional authority to tap the Kankakee River. Lake Michigan tapping is blocked by legal battles, and Des Plaines River water is too polluted for home use. Cost is about 25 million dollars with demand rising from 33 million gallons daily now to 69 million by 1990. Continued on Page 20.
