Bas kin president of the merchants retail division says stores will stay open every night starting December 16 to handle the expected heavy Christmas trade. Additional salespeople hired and shops will decorate individually, not loop-wide.

Police Find Dead Man Hanging to Bed Post

The body of 46 year old William Cherrie was found late yesterday in a boarding house at 121 St Louis Street. He hung from a bed post with hemp tied to his neck and deputies ruled the death likely self inflicted after a five to six hour lapse. Roommate Daniel Cain was questioned and said Cherrie appeared in excellent spirits earlier that morning.

Spectator Golden Gloves Bouts Set for January

Joliet hosts the Spectator Chicago Tribune Golden Gloves at Catholic High School gym on January 27 and 28 with finals February 3. Event overseen by Marty Gleason and Bill Gross, proceeds benefit Guardian Angels and Swedish Orphans homes. Two divisions, novice and veteran, will be contested with sixteen champions advancing to sectional finals in Chicago.
