Police Catch 3 Women Shoplifters

Three women Carolyn Strahl Pauline Cipicks and Mary Hebeder all of Chicago were arrested by Officer Kwasne for alleged shoplifting. Police found 17 pairs of silk hose and other items in their car amid an ongoing local shoplifting wave. They face a hearing before Judge Nicholson with store managers present for identification.

Forger Check Leads to Local Investigation by Harold Wild

Harold Wild of Medical Arts Pharmacy cashed a $27 560 for a stranger named Ronaldedy Howard Ward. Wild spent $26.80 in cash and 70 cents in merchandise to uncover the fraud. The forged check was drawn on the First National Bank to Ward at 1021 Cass Street, an address not in the city directory.

Fake $20 Gold Certificates Hit Joliet Merchants

Local banks warn merchants to beware newer counterfeit $20 bills that mimic the 1928 dated notes bearing A Mellon and W O Woods signatures and Andrew Jackson. A banker notes the fakes have darker gold seal and green imprint, with Chicago seen as a hub for the counterfeit ring.
