Joliet Teachers Institute Opens Pre School Sessions

Joliet public grade schools schedule a teachers institute from September 7 to 9 with breakfast for new hires at Hufford Junior High School. Sept 7 7 45 a m teachers meet board members principals and administrators. Sept 8 meetings in various buildings. Sept 9 marks start of pupil year with 9 a m report and 11 a m dismissal while institute sessions continue. Parochial schools in Joliet open next week.

Joliet Junior College topic to be discussed next Tuesday

A public meeting on Joliet Junior College will examine its present operation and future role in the Joliet area. Sponsored by four area groups, the August 31 discussion at Joliet Township High School will feature a panel including Fred Fisher and Dr. William French with Dr. Lyman Glene ng.

Tax levy urged for Junior College amid rising enrollments

Officials say growing enrollments in both college and high school strain finances as the district maintains three high school buildings and cannot fund the Junior College. They cite new state legislation on junior colleges signed by Gov. Kerner as further justification. Continued on Page 6.
