Loughran Blatt Louhran and others chaired events. Neff family honored for largest brood. Wise couple named oldest attendees. club formed last April with 2000 members and inclusive policy. An 8 piece orchestra, dance numbers, and community singing capped the day.
A Joliet county wide drive will survey business firms to verify N R A code adherence. Canvassers will seek to enroll 100 percent, check for code compliance, and remove cheaters from N R A membership while urging consumers to patronize compliant firms. Colonel John E Morrison leads the drive with hotel meetings scheduled.
A crowd of about 5,000 jammed Cass street between Chicago and Ottawa streets to watch Red Hot Burns of Texas ascend a fire department ladder atop the White Store and carry a 200 pound bale of cotton back down. He is walking to A Century of Progress from his hometown, carrying the bale over the entire distance.
A joint picnic sponsored by the Odin and Fylgia Lodges of the Independent Order of Svithiod is set for Sunday August 27 at Barrs Woods east Washington street. Baseball games horseshoe pitching and other contests are planned with refreshments on the grounds. Public invitation announced.
