J H G argues that counting by hand is error prone and costly, urging use of voting machines to reduce miscounts. He cites a county in which three different totals for a sheriff candidate appeared, and notes recounts are required by law to avoid disputed results and delays.
Joliet’s annual spring cleanup week starts Monday. Commissioner Sam Shepley asks residents to tidy yards and move debris to the street for pickup by his crews. Trucks will circulate over the coming weeks to collect refuse.
The state highway police will stay in Joliet until every 1933 auto license is removed. Patrol officials vow to enforce purchase of new vehicle tags and stop every car with an antiquated license.
Geraldine Bailer, 19, of Owosso Michigan, was found semi conscious on a west side porch and taken to St Josephs hospital by police ambulance. She claimed she came hitch hiking from Valparaiso Indiana and was revived at the hospital.
The Advertising Club of Joliet undertakes a multi week advertising study under club president Jewett Ricker. Wilfred Burns from Spectator opened the discussion at the Woodruff Inn, with Harry L. Bird of the American Institute Laundry scheduled to continue the discussion next Wednesday.
The park board approved a ten year payment to James G. Heggie for Heggie Field to be a permanent northeast city playground. Ninety hundred dollars total cost if the contract is fulfilled, with seventy five dollars monthly for ten years, or thirty seven fifty if Mr. Heggie dies before termination.
Grant Green of Cable Piano Company markets a Joliet composed song My Heart Is Home In Illinois with words by Mrs Dorene Tanner Oehler of Wilmington. Local and Chicago critics praise the piece as outstanding and expect it to become popular after its unveiling to War Mothers. Jack Meade performed it in Joliet with strong applause.
Joliet shows lower crime per population than any Illinois Indiana Michigan or Wisconsin city, per a crime detection bureau record cited by Police Chief Nicholas Fornango. He says recent months see lawless activity reduced and arrests rising.
The tourist parade arrives in Joliet bringing visitors and trade. Merchants greet the caravan as motorists contribute to hotel and restaurant patronage and local business cheer.
