Roy Women Lead Red Cross Drive and Local Honoree

The Roy community raised 367.25 for Red Cross Week with 317.25 sent to Washington. Led by Mrs. P. A. Roy and Mrs. Grace V Ogden, fundraising honored many contributors including the Gunner Sisters and Prof. Russell. The piece also features Julius Appel, a German-born Roy resident and longtime businessman celebrated as a colorful local figure.

Lightning Kills Roy Mesa Homesteader James Kelly in Field

Enduring homesteader James Kelly was struck dead by lightning Friday while hoeing in his corn field six miles south of Roy. The bolt, from a passing cloud, cut gashes and scorched hair and clothing. the hoe handle broke but remained in his grasp. An inquest was held, with jury members including W. P. Halterman and B. N. Patton. Funeral services were held at his Roy residence, with many friends attending.

Marriage Notice at Golana and Hall Farm Party

We learn of the marriage announcement for Vera Burton to Jack Mills to take place at Golana on Wednesday June 27. In addition a social at Rev G B Hall’s farm Wednesday evening honors visitor Miss Lillian Purdum, with 36 or more young people enjoying games and an ice cream and cake feast amid superb refreshments.

Lusk son enlists. leaves homestead and crops for brother

Frank Lusk, son of Attorney J B Lusk, travels to El Paso to enlist in the army. He plans to join an artillery corps and begin training immediately, leaving his homestead and a large crop acreage to his brother's care during his absence. A local shower washout delayed the northbound Polly Wednesday near Tucumcari for about an hour.
