Roy Women Lead Red Cross Drive and Local Honoree
The Roy community raised 367.25 for Red Cross Week with 317.25 sent to Washington. Led by Mrs. P. A. Roy and Mrs. Grace V Ogden, fundraising honored many contributors including the Gunner Sisters and Prof. Russell. Enduring homesteader James Kelly was struck dead by lightning Friday while hoeing in his corn field six miles south of Roy. The bolt, from a passing cloud, cut gashes and scorched hair and clothing. the hoe handle broke but remained in his grasp. An inquest was held, with jury members including W. P. Halterman and B. N. Patton. Funeral services were held at his Roy residence, with many friends attending.
