HEACOCK FACING EMbezzlement CHARGES IN SOCORRO
W C Heacock of Albuquerque known as Judge Heacock defended John O Payne in Judge Pope's court and Payne was sent to the penitentiary. The jury heard that funds entrusted to Heacock vanished as he claimed expenditures for witnesses and whiskey. Heacock was brought to Socorro by Berry U S marshal and remanded on $500 bond awaiting grand jury action for embezzlement. disbarment proceedings to follow.

Luis Baca Held Up Near Harvey House in Mora
A Mora resident Luis Baca was robbed near the Harvey House after arriving on delayed train No 2. He surrendered about twenty five dollars to the thief who then fled. Socorro Nears End of Flood Danger
Socorro seems close to being free from flood danger after August’s inundation. Dam and ditch work at the mountain point has progressed satisfactorily for weeks. About $2,800 of $33,000 subscribed to divert the arroyo has been raised, much spent under Jas. G. Fitch’s oversight. With remaining funds, work can continue about a week, aiming to strengthen the dam for ordinary floods and to widen and deepen the ditch further.
