The Sept 9 1907 meeting of the Custer County Commissioners fixed the 1907 levy at 3.70 per $100 assessable property with state and county fund allocations and added special state levies for the Predatory Animal and Live Stock Sanitary funds. A separate Sept 1907 special session addressed road matters including a bridge at Big Lost River and bid advertising.
Hon J C Fox and Richard Bennetts of Challis visited Custer last week on business and assessed the South Packer group. They toured Estes Mountain and the Montana mine, praising the development tunnel to 1700 feet and noting a four foot wide ore ledge with gold averages around 70 dollars per ton. They expect the vein to converge into a larger solid ledge at greater depth.
District Court list includes Royal A Pierce vs L Violet Spalding and others with claims of debt and damages. Cases cover quiet title actions among mining firms Bismark Mountain Gold Mining Co versus North Sunbeam Gold Mining Co and foreclosure disputes. Other entries note condemnation of land for public use and appeals from county boards.
Owing to a statewide teacher shortage, Challis will host a Special Teachers Examination for Second and Third Grade certificates on October 8 and 9, 1907. The test replaces the May examination. Manta Keenan, Superintendent.
The following warrants against Custer county will be paid with interest to date if presented within ten days of this advertisement. Warrant numbers 292 to 295 inclusive relate to the Surface Redemption Fund, plus current expense, and issue dates in 1907.
