County Commissioners discuss jail project and bids

The Challis board met in regular session and revoked the Arthur Fox jail contract. Bids were opened for a rock rail building, with P. Maxfield awarded the contract and bond set at 1500 dollars. S. M. Ballard named supervisor, with challenged scope to be executed per plans.

A local invitation seeks one hundred Custer county residents to join a progressive deposit account promising $2000 to every participant. The plan requires monthly deposits starting November 1 with $10, then $20 on December 1, $40 on January 1, and doubling each month for a year, aiming to build funds through steady contributions.

A Lively Chase Involving Sheriff Bucklin

Sheriff Bucklin pursued Mrs. Matt LaRouche and her two children aged about five and seven who tried to flee the officer. The family had recently resided in Custer county and were separated from the mother by probate court order.

Mother Allegedly Plans River Escape With Children

In a Custer county case the mother, Mrs LaRouche, who had lost custody to the Orphans Home, tried to flee with her children toward Snake river. Sheriff Bucklin pursued to prevent a possible drowning, with Deputy Oley accompanying the children to Pocatello. The mother later traveled to Blackfoot and then Mackay per Idaho Falls Times.

Report shows total receipts of 826.50 and disbursements of 793.40 for Challis Fourth of July events held July 4 and 6. The year’s balance 33.10 is turned over to the Challis Fair funds by General Committee, Treasurer T. Gayle signs the statement.

Struck the Lode at Silver Bell Tunnel in Idaho

A letter dated October 1 from Dave Farmer, general manager of Buros Mining & Milling Co., reports a ledge cut in the Silver Bell cross-cut tunnel with a four inch galena ore vein. The ore was sent to Boise for assay. the mine previously won first prize for silver lead ore at the Custer County exhibit in the State Fair. Prospectors head to winter quarters as Hasbrouck Burns Co. work quartz claims at Josephus Lake. Jim Hill plans winter supplies for Sheep Mountain mines. Greyhound Co. employs seven men this winter.
