Prospecting Pay Streak and Iron Dyke Gold Find

Mr. Smith bought an interest and began drifting the ground. The first samples show six cents in the pan, with a pay streak over twenty feet wide. Weeks and Lafferty uncovered an ore body in the Iron Dyke mine, about owene feet wide, yielding gold from one to twenty three dollars per ton. The gold is very fine, presenting an excellent cyanide proposition.

Accident Ends Life of Burrell Rood Near Salmon

Burrell Rood, a young man from near Salmon and worker for the Lost Packer pack train, died Friday at the Half Way House between Custer and Loon Creek. In a friendly scuffle over a loaded 45 90 rifle, the gun discharged as Rood pushed it aside, striking him above the jaw and exiting the head. Eyewitnesses Clyde Wilkinson and another man described the weapon as dangerously loaded.

At the Valley Creek mine about fifteen men are employed as work on the mill speeds up. Visitors J B Hastings and Judge Price arrived and toured the site. An altercation occurred when H L Benners Jap cook took a left ear blow, Benners suffering a sore hand. George M Smith reports rich placer gravel finds in Joe's gulch, with Dan Murphy leading Joy’s gulch placering last spring.

John Ogberen resumes activity with the locals. A grand ball and free supper by the Miners Union at Gladys on the 8th drew a large crowd and wild acclaim. J W Cross visited East Fork on Wednesday. Burrell Road was accidentally killed by E L Fegan on Oct 2. A coroner’s inquest was held. the weapon used was not found loaded. E L Thomas acted as coroner. Rood, about 30, born at Salmon City Idaho, died from a brain wound.
