J Bowen Dead Two Months After Moving West
William J Bowen, longtime Custer County resident and former sheriff in 1902 1903, died in Ogden Utah on November 2. Born in Wisconsin 45 years ago he had worked in placer and quartz mining around Custer and Stanley. His funeral was held November 7 at Odd Fellows Hall, conducted by Quilter Lodge No 21, with many friends in attendance. He is survived by a widow two young sons and other relatives.

Lost Packer mine report notes ore, development, and smelter plans
Secretary Henry Welsh reports season 1900 work at the Lost Packer company mine in Ivers Idaho focused on development, assessment, ditch and road building, and a saw mill. For 1910 winter, directors plan preparations for a smelter run. Current mining yields include 1 000 tons of first class ore valued at $50 per ton, about 10 000 tons of low grade ore valued around $10 per ton, and 4 000 tons of $10 ore on dumps, with high grade siliceous ore filling stopes. No ore pricing from below No 4 level is estimated due to limited development.
