Sad Death Of Mrs. Etta Eddy In Challis Creek

Mrs. Etta Eddy wife of William Eddy died at home on Challis creek Monday night April 28 at 11 oclock aged 80 years four months. Born in Towa she left four small children and a grieving husband and brother. Funeral at TI CC F hall Challis last Wednesday at 3 pm conducted by Rev. R S Nickerson with relatives and friends in attendance and flowers on the casket.

Phelan and Purviance Wedding at Mrs. Phelan’s Home

Lawrence Phelan wed May Purviance in a small Thursday ceremony at the home of Mrs. Phelan in Weiser. Rev. BE Ashman officiated. The bride, daughter of Col. Purviance of Los Angeles, wore a white mulle dress trimmed with silk. The groom, active in Thunder Mountain deals, is well regarded locally. The couple will reside in Weiser.

Pioneer Dies in Boise Miner John Lockhead 60

John Lockhead died in Boise on April 27 1902 from consumption at age 60 He was a Basin pioneer and a quarta miner who came from Scotland 87 years ago He resided with his brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Jas Ballantyne of Squawcreek He was well known and cherished in Custer county where he lived many years leaving many friends in the county.

County Superintendent Martha Keenan announces the final eighth grade examinations on May 8 and 9, 1902, at Clayton Caswr Challis Bayhorse and Mackay with nearby centers for others. A college scholarship at Grand Island Nebraska will be awarded to the county’s top pupil on the final exam.

Challis Mackay stage line schedule changes begin May first

Beginning May first the Challis Mackay stage line changes its schedule. Challis arrivals occur at six o clock in the morning with payments distributed and mail sent upriver at six. The Mackay bound stage leaves Challis at seven p m connecting with up river stages and the Salmon stage. Local notes report residents visiting Challis and mining plans. The Pocatello Tribune says a Salmon River Railroad daily train may start May 5, boosting mail to Custer County.

Pleasant entertainment at Rev Nickerson home in Challis

The C BE Society of Challis enjoyed an evening at Rev R S Nickerson's home with a fine repast and prizes for pine board wood carving. Miss Mable Bowles won a pen knife and Mrs Senger a musical whistle. Visitors included Sam Kooser and brother from Chicago. Mrs M Hewitson of Salmon arrived. Idaho fishing season legally allowed May 1 to November 1.
