Mask Ball in Challis Draws Big Crowd and Colorful Costumes
The masquerade ball held Tuesday night February 22 in Challis was the largest in years with 72 attendees in varied costumes. Highlights included comic acts and notable characters such as Peary North Pole Explorer and Rainbow and Columbian outfits. The Silver Leaf Rebekah Lodge No 27 organized the event, net proceeds about $130, Henderson's orchestra provided music, and supper was deemed excellent.

Death of Mrs. Truitt at Challis Idaho
Mrs. D W Truitt died after a short illness at the home of Mr and Mrs Nels C Jenson near Challis on February 2 1910 at about 9 pm from ruptured ectopic gestation causing peritonitis. She was 32, born in St Paul Minnesota, married in Alaska to Mr Truitt who works on a large irrigation canal. Drs Kirtley and Lynn failed to save her. snow blocked rail access delaying her husband. Survived by husband, mother and brother. Funeral held in Challis. burial in village cemetery with plans to ship remains later. Community sympathy goes to the bereaved family. The end was peaceful.

Railroad contract Let for Salmon City to Challis Route
Pittsburg and Gilmore have surveyed the Salmon River route to Boise with a four mile right of way to Challis, Clayton contract for grading awarded to McArthur Bros. A 7800 foot tunnel may be driven in the headwaters of the Boise south fork. Work could begin when weather opens, rail cars and steel rails already arriving. The line is touted to unlock east county resources, attract capital, and spur mining development as the new route follows a water grade toward Portland via the C and N line.
