Deaths in Challis and near Salmon City reported

Week of deaths notices from Challis Idaho and Salmon City recount the passing of John P. Spalding at West Jordan near Salt Lake City due to cirrhosis. Spalding, 57, formerly of Monroe Michigan, then Bayhorse and Challis, left a widow and three children. Grace Kesl, Miss Grace Barrack by maiden name, was found dead near Salmon City with a baby in the house. believed to have died from a burst artery after giving the child a bath. Deceased Spalding was a prominent Custer county citizen, former county treasurer and school trustee.

Pilmer Killed by Street Car While Leading a Horse

A deaf man aged 58 named Pilmer was struck and fatally injured when a street car hit as he attempted to cross a track while leading a horse. The horse pulled him back onto the car fender, and he was dragged under the vehicle. Pilmer, an longtime resident and builder of the Salmon river wagon road from Clayton to Custer, was widely known in the county. In other notes, Silver Leaf Rebekah lodge No 27 installed officers including Mrs. R Brasseur as V G and Miss Gertrude Mc Kendrick as I G, among others.

Stage Hold Up Near Resort Station in Idaho

A lone highwayman halted a Warren to Meadows stage about 4 30 am three miles from Resort Station. He forced the driver and two passengers to open mail sacks and stole all registered letters. The unseen thief, unmasked, walked away toward Warren and left the scene with apparent ease. Postal authorities were notified and a search for the robber began.
